THE K & K ANIMATED MINNOW
The K & K Animated Minnow, the first jointed, articulated fish lure, "The minnow that swims", was created by John D. Kreisser of Cincinnati Ohio and patented on June 25th, 1907.
Advertising promoted the life like qualities of the lure, assuring the fisherman that it swims and wiggles to attract game fish. The K & K Minnow had it's own metal forked tail, removeable double hooks and was weighted to dive deep. The K & K Minnow was offered in several sizes from a three inch to a musky size five inches. Made by the K & K manufacturing company of Toledo Ohio and finally William Reed & Sons of Boston Massachusetts until 1916. Recent auction prices (2019 ) are in the 5K range.
My lures are reproductions of antique patented fish lures from 1900 to 1950, the golden age of wood fish lures in the U.S. All are hand crafted of Bass wood turned on my wood lathe, painted with an oil based enamel paint, sealed with a clear finish and completed using stainless steel fittings and eagle claw hooks.
